Archie & Mary’s Children: John Alexander McDonell

It must be terribly sad to lose two babies so quickly in a marriage.  This is what appears to have happened to Archibald and Mary.  A record for a second son was found in the church records and the child was named:  John Alexander McDonell.

The St. Alphonsus Church records show that he was born the 18th of April 1863 and baptized on the 26 of April 1863.  His burial location and death date are not known.

Source:  Baptism, Marriage and Burial Index of the St. Alphonsus Church, 1846-1920, Chapeau, Pontiac Co., Quebec. FHL#1029798, B31, John Alexander McDonell, St. Bridget’s Sheen, baptismal record.

St. Bridgets Sheen, April 26, 1863. We the undersigned priest of this mission have baptized John Alexander born the 18th……of the lawful marriage of Archibald McDonell and Mary McDonell. The sponsors were John McDonell and Rachel McDonell who have not signed………..can’t read the name of the priest.

The witnesses of this birth are Rachel who is probably Mary’s sister.  John McDonell could be a brother to either Mary or Archibald?

Apparently the original church in Sheenboro burned down in 1918 and was replaced?  Here are links to the Archdiocese of Pembroke for possibly more information:

I have wrote to you before about the Mc/Mac/Donald/McDonnell families of Arnprior etc. Here is a letter I got helping me tie it all together.

Subject: Fw: McDonald’s of Sand point

    Something to think about.
    Penelope& Ronald
Penelope (1822-1904) was born in Canada a niece of Alex
MacDonell the lunber baron on the Ottawa.
Ronald (1815-1892) came from Iverness Scotland. I believe with a cousin who ended up in the States.Time???? Ronald was a blacksmith ( aside I think they were all blacksmiths)Penelope was from Lochiel Glengarry so he had to have stopped there. John R.,their son was born in Sand Point1857 They returned to Locheil as Flora was born there 1859. 1871 census show them back in Sand Point. When John R. Married (1893) the witness was an Elexander A McDonald
I believe there was an Archiebald MacDonald who came to Canada at the age of 17 with hisGrandmother Sarah McDonald (her husband Donald came lated) They came to an Uncle Samuel McDonald. Archie was the only son of DuncanMcDonald & Christine Stewart That was about1848
Might this Uncle be the Samuel who married Margaret Scott???
Might this Archie be the one married- to Catherine McKinnon????
Might their son Alex A the witness at John R’s wedding 1893 ????? I feel there is a relactionship here.
In my recordings of McDonalds this is the only family with a Sarah, There are 2 Duncan’s ( death & rename)
    Smith Family
Does this family have a Bishop Bill Smith (1897 -1986) Bishop of Pembroke???? I have heard it said that he was related to John R.
Mary Ann McDonald Poupore mother of Fr Poupore also she she was related.

Hello Carol. Yes, I remember you. I believe I asked you for a family chart because I could not figure out the information that you sent to me before. It was too confusing. Since we emailed, I have learned a lot more about the families and have posted my information in other posts on this blog. I have that they came from Knoydart across from the Isle of Skye. My family is tied to the lumber baron families of Sandpoint through Ronald a son of Alexander John McDonell and Ellen McPherson (my greats). He married Janet who was a daughter of John Mor McDonell m. Flora W. McLellan and they are connected to what is called the Lundie MacDonell’s. Bonnie
